DFB team struggles with defensive problems: flood of goals in the Bundesliga

It’s not just Harry Kane who is on the hunt for records: the Bundesliga is experiencing a flood of goals like never before. That’s good for the attractiveness – but it also hurts Julian Nagelsmann’s national team.

This extrapolation produces a dream result. Harry Kane scored 17 goals in 11 Bundesliga games. This meant that he scored once more than last season’s shooting kings, Niclas Füllkrug and Christopher Nkunku. If FC Bayern’s new football striker keeps the average, he would have 52 goals at the end of the season and surpass Robert Lewandowski’s record (41). “That’s still a bit too far away,” says Kane about the daring record forecast. Probably true.

His reticence is understandable. The accuracy of the prediction is vague. The other top candidate on the top scorer list supports Karl-Heinz Rummenigge’s thesis that football is not mathematics. According to an initial projection – based on fourteen goals in eight games – Serhou Guirassy would have scored 59 goals at the end of the season. Then an injury stopped him – and the numbers game. At least for a short time.
