Dennis Schröder leads Toronto Raptors to comeback victory against San Antonio Spurs

Saint AnthonyBasketball world champion Dennis Schröder led the Toronto Raptors to a comeback victory in the NBA and overcame a 22-point deficit against the San Antonio Spurs led by super talent Victor Wembanyama.

The Raptors forced overtime with the score at 110:110 after regulation time and ultimately won 123:116. Schröder had 24 points, 6 assists and 3 rebounds. In addition to two steals, he also managed a block in the Canadian team’s third win of the season.

“We are too inconsistent, I think. Our path to success is always when we defend well and play quickly. We didn’t do that in the first half,” Schröder told the German Press Agency. “In the second half we simply played more aggressively than them and brought the energy.”

Only Scottie Barnes, with whom Schröder is getting along better and better, had an even better result. Barnes had 30 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists and was therefore man of the game.

19-point comeback

“We played terribly in the first half. We missed shots,” Barnes said. “We just tried to do well defensively and control the offense,” he said, explaining the 19-point comeback in the second half. The Raptors had never made up for a bigger deficit away from home in the NBA.

Wembanyama recorded 20 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. The 2.24 meter tall Frenchman also impressed with 5 blocks. “Of course he has the potential to be very good,” said Schröder. “He plays very, very well on offense and defense.”
