SANTO DOMINGO, -The Panamanian Jonathan Araúz, from the Estrellas Orientales, and the Dominican Luis Mieses were the debutants of Monday’s day in the Dominican League.
Araúz, 25 years old, was the third hitter and played second base, going 1 for 2, with a run scored, a double, an RBI and a walk in the Stars’ 5-4 victory against Licey in Santo Domingo.
Araúz was the “Star Player” of the Stars by breaking the shutout in the top of the seventh inning with a double and later scoring the first run on a hit by Drew Avans.
He is the 28th Panamanian to play in the Dominican League and the seventh with the Eastern Stars. Gerald Thorne, Joe Nunziate and Astor Cupidan were the first in 1951.
It is the 16th debut for the Orientales this winter, with seven imported:
Drew Avans (Oct 19, USA), Julio Robaina (Oct 20/Cub); Vimael Machin (Oct 20/Puerto Rico); Willie McIver (Oct 20/USA); Río Gómez (Oct 24/USA);Roel Santos (Nov 14/Cub) and Jonthan Araúz (Nov 20/Cub).

Christopher Family (Oct 20); Edward Nunez (Oct 20); Willy Vasquez (Oct 21); Yovanny Cruz (Oct 21); Angel Martinez (Oct 24); Jeffry Yan (Oct 28) and Christian Bristle (Nov 2); Luis Moreno (Nov 11); Robinson Pineapple (Nov 4).
Luis Mieses replaced Yermín Mercedes in the eighth inning with a selection play in the Toros’ 9-1 victory against the Gigantes in La Romana.
He went to the field and played left field in the ninth inning, after becoming the Bulls’ twelve debutant, nine Dominicans and two imported.
Tanner Kiest (Oct 19) and Max Schuemann (Oct 23) are the imported ones, while the nine Dominicans are;
Jonathan Class (Oct 19), Aneurys Rosary (‘Oct 19); John Brito (Oct 20); Junior Perez (Oct 20); Yaramil Herald (Oct 21); Jojanse Towers (Oct 21); Thayron Liranzo (Oct 25) and Luis Mieses (Nov 20).
The Gigantes del Cibao are the ones that have had the most debuts this winter with 23, followed by the Estrellas Orientales (16); Tigres del Licey (13).
