KOMPAS.com – One of the owners of Inter Miami, David Beckham, admitted that he was worried that Lionel Messi would not join Inter Miami because of Barcelona’s temptation.
Messi has had a brilliant career at Barcelona. He presented prestigious trophies such as the Champions League and Club World Cup.
However, Messi’s time together with Barcelona had to end because the club nicknamed the Blaugrana was experiencing financial problems.
As a result, Messi decided to move to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). With Paris, La Pulga spent two years.
After that, news emerged that Barcelona was interested in bringing Lionel Messi home after La Pulga’s contract expired at PSG.

David Beckham then talked about Inter Miami’s struggle to recruit Lionel Messi.
According to Beckham, Inter Miami was worried that they would not be able to sign Messi because Barcelona showed interest in re-signing the Argentinian star.
“We always knew there would be competition. “I was a little worried when Barcelona showed interest,” said Beckham, quoted by Goal from The Times.
“Barcelona clearly attracted him and he never got to say a proper goodbye there, that was the only time I was worried about him going somewhere else,” he said.

Even so, Beckham revealed that the Inter Miami club would not just give up. The Herons continue to try to tempt Messi.
Then, Beckham said, a telephone call gave him goosebumps when Messi decided to join Inter Miami.
“We did everything possible, me Jorge and Jose Mas (trying to get Messi),” said Beckham.
“Then, we received a phone call that he decided to come to us, it gave me goosebumps,” he said.
“I promised the fans and the people of Miami that I want to bring in some of the best players in the world,” he said.

Messi’s performance with Inter Miami was impressive. He succeeded in presenting the 2023 Leagues Cup trophy in the inaugural season.
