Daniela and Isabel Corchón Shine at the Spanish U17 Badminton Championship

The Spanish U17 Championship that was held on the island of Ibiza provided a more than pleasant surprise as Daniela Corchón, from the Soria-CS24 Badminton Club, won the silver medal in the individual category.

Daniela’s sports career has been in continuous growth. In the under-15 category she won her first bronze medal, also in individual, and within the under-17 category she won bronze in the women’s doubles last season, to culminate with this national runner-up position in 2023.

Until the quarterfinal round, they resolved their matches with relative solvency, winning by two games to zero in all of them. In the semifinal round she faced local María García. The match produced continuous streaks of points from both players who decided each of the three sets from the beginning. The final result was 21-10, 13-21 and 21-16.

On Friday and Saturday, the woman from Soriano also competed in the women’s doubles with the Navarrese Ainhoa Larraya and in the mixed doubles with the Balearic Yulien Gil. In both draws she had a similar trajectory, overcoming rounds until the quarterfinals in both modalities. Not being able to train the doubles routines with her partners, she noticed this handicap, despite which she placed among the eight best national couples.

Sunday morning was reserved for the five finals, with the fourth slot being Daniela’s final. The match pitted her against the first classified in the national ranking, the Galician Iziar Barcala, in what was supposed to be a complicated match. Although the balance in previous matches favored the Soriana, Daniela was unable to display her best game, weighed down by the eight matches she previously played, to lose the final in two sets.

Daniela therefore stood on the podium of a Spanish championship for the third time and reaffirmed her as one of the pearls of Soria sports and a national reference in her category.

The Soria coach who accompanied him, Víctor Ortega, was excited by this new success of the good work of the club’s youth team and showing the way forward for the youngest players.

From this date, Daniela’s programming is aimed at weeks of less work intensity to increase training in December in order to arrive in optimal shape to face the national club league where she will be a key piece.
