Cortaillod Judo Club: A Season of Transition and Frustration

The years go by and are unfortunately similar for the Cortaillod Judo Club. The Carcoie women’s team took fourth place in the Final Four of the Swiss League A championship on Saturday, in a room in the Riveraine with an overheated atmosphere. The Neuchâteloises lost sharply 5-0 in their semi-final against Stade Lausanne, leader of the regular championship, before also losing against Uster in the final for 3rd place with a score of 4-1. Cortaillod had already had to settle for the chocolate medal in 2022.

“The logic is respected in relation to the season, but there is also frustration because both in the semi-final and in the final it is possible to pass. », Reacted Désirée Gabriel, the captain and coach of the team.

After having won medals and a few national titles, JC Cortaillod is at the bottom of the wave, in a phase of transition and reconstruction. “You have to let the project mature, let the experiments take place, and just be patient even if on the day of competition, none of us likes to lose. », added this figure of the club.

For the next season, JC Cortaillod intends to combine three key words: stabilize, strengthen and patience.

Total success for the Final Four

If the club remains unsatisfied in terms of the sporting results, the organizational one of this weekend is quite different. For the second and last time, JC Cortaillod hosted the Final Four, the flagship event of Swiss judo. And the Riveraine was crowded on Saturday evening during the two finals. “Media from all over Romandy made the trip. We talk about judo, Neuchâtel city, Neuchâtel canton and we see that judo is a discipline which is not just the fifth wheel of the chariot. », rejoiced Stéphane Guye, Carcoie technical director.

The national title went to Taïga Lausanne for the ladies and Team Genève for the men. It is also the city of Calvin which should host the next editions of the Final Four starting next year. /lre
