Things are going well for ex-NBA star Isaac Bonga (23). The national player played a key role in the Germans’ historic World Cup triumph and is a top performer for the Bayern basketball team.

Just when Bonga had recovered from his injury and returned to training with the second team, the next setback came. He tore two lateral ligaments in his right ankle in mid-October. Bonga is still waiting for his first game for Vechta.
He came to Lower Saxony in the summer with high expectations. “I would like to perform well in Vechta’s farm team and fight my way into the BBL team. I’ve been back in basketball training for a few weeks now, and now I’m back in touch. And every time I stand on the pitch I smile,” he explained during his introduction.

Rasta’s sports director Gerrit Kersten-Thiele was also enthusiastic and said of the new addition: “We are happy that Joshua is coming to us! He brings a lot of talent and the right attitude. And I think he can be an absolute asset to our program.”
What’s next? Vechta officials now hope that Bonga can be back in the second team’s game against Paderborn on November 18th. There should be no further setback. But the fact is: he is currently far away from the Bundesliga team.
The Bonga family is unique in German professional sports. The third brother Tarsis (26) is a professional footballer. The striker moved from Eintracht Braunschweig to 1860 Munich for the new season.
