All participants in the 2023 U-17 World Cup finals have played three matches in the group phase. Two Group E matches on Saturday (18/11) evening closed the preliminary round.
A total of 16 countries are continuing their work on the phase knock outwhile eight other countries had to bury their dreams of winning the U-17 World Cup title.
The winners and runners up of each group, from A to F, automatically advance to the round of 16. Apart from that, there are four countries with the best three rankings which also received quotas for the quarter-final tickets.
Meanwhile, the bottom of each group and the two third-ranked countries were forced to give up hope.
The caretaker countries eliminated early were Panama (Group A), Canada (B), New Caledonia (C), Poland (D), South Korea (E) and New Zealand (F).
Apart from Panama, five other caretaker countries failed to get points in the group phase, meaning they always lost all three matches.
Meanwhile, the two third-ranked countries that could not reach the round of 16 were Burkina Faso and Indonesia.
The points obtained by Burkina Faso and Indonesia are lower than the other four third-ranked countries.
In the third place standings, Burkina Faso and Indonesia are in fifth and sixth positions or below Iran, Japan, Uzbekistan and Venezuela.
