Competition day: Corentin Le Guen, rugby in a wheelchair

Wednesday October 18, 2023. Corentin Le Guen, 29, is preparing to compete in the International Cup with the French wheelchair rugby team. The defender, who has worn the tricolor jersey since 2015, wants to take advantage of this home competition to shine in front of his audience. It must be said that the program is attractive: the eight best nations in the world gathered for three days at the Halle Carpentier (Paris, 13th arrondissement), before a final phase at the Accor Arena at the end of the week. “The International Cup is the last big rehearsal before the Olympic Games. It’s a big tournament being played in France, something that happens very rarely,” the young man explained to us before the kick-off of the French’s first match, against the United States.

The man who became quadriplegic at the age of 15, during a rugby match with the Dijon Espoirs pole, did not take long before establishing himself as an essential element of the disabled sports version of his discipline. Double European champion with the Blues, he wants to add the International Cup to his list of achievements, before setting off in search of another, even more prestigious objective. “I participated in the Rio Games in 2016, in those in Tokyo in 2021. And I hope to be selected for my third Games, in Paris,” confided Corentin Le Guen. There is no cup, but we will try to bring home the best medal. »
