Colombia’s Queen of Artistic Gymnastics: Ginna Escobar’s Gold Medal Triumph

Their social networks are full of messages. Everyone describes her as ‘queen’, and they are right. Ginna Escobar from Antioquia is the queen of Colombian artistic gymnastics and of the Paisa delegation in the National Games with four gold medals and one silver.

She is an example not only for her discipline, dedication and perseverance, but also for her resilience, sweetness and humility.

She has overcome injuries, operations and all kinds of obstacles to establish herself as the most technical, elastic and aerobic in her sport.

In Armenia, Ginna achieved gold in the easel jumping, uneven bars, floor and team events, as well as a silver in the individual overall, which makes her the most successful in the first week of the competitions.

“Representing Antioquia is an honor, it is returning to my roots, my home. You feel a lot of love, passion and it is very nice to leave my department at the top,” said Ginna, who is a mirror for both her colleagues and the country’s gymnasts who admire her long and successful sports career.

“Happy for these medals, it is a reward for everything we have experienced since the last Games. Also from long hours, blows, fatigue and everything we experience on a daily basis due to training. “I am grateful and proud of my teammates because we are a beautiful group,” commented the gymnast who is also a psychologist.

Ginna confirmed that the title achieved in teams was the most special because her work group is very young, but that with dedication and effort a hard-fought and hard-fought final was won against a high-level exponent.

The most winners

Along with Ginna, Antioquia has other athletes who have won several victories, such as archers Ana María Rendón and Pablo Gómez (two golds, as well as several silvers and bronzes); Mónica Sarai Arango (artistic swimming, two gold medals); Daniel Restrepo and Daniela Zapata (two golds each in diving), as well as Manuela Restrepo in badminton and María Clara Ramírez, in squash.

Paisa athletes continue in search of victories to reach first place in the medal table which, for the moment, one week before the closing, is led by Valle del Cauca.
