Again the “Petro out!” was heard in a football stadium. Videos that went viral on the Internet show that some fans chanted the rejection song against the Colombian leader at the Manuel Murillo Toro Stadium, in Ibagué (Tolima).

The episode was presented in the match between Deportes Tolima and Deportivo Cali on date 3 of home run A of Liga BetPlay 2023-II. Match in which the locals emerged victorious 4-2.

Background

The first chorus was generated by the presence of the first lady, Verónica Alcocer, and one of the president’s daughters, Antonella Petro, at the Metropolitan stadium in Barranquilla, at the match between Colombia and Brazil, on November 16. This generated criticism from a part of public opinion, arguing that the president was not in the stadium and the harangue had been against the president’s youngest daughter.

However, it seems that the songs will continue to be heard in sports venues as a way of expressing the discontent of citizens who are not satisfied with the current government.

In fact, it is the fifth time, after starting at the Metropolitan Stadium of Barranquilla, they were also repeated at the Atanasio, in the classic between Medellín and Atlético Nacional; and at the Defensores del Chaco stadium, in the match between the Paraguay and Colombia teams. The fourth time was yesterday in the classic between Medellín and Atlético Nacional.

In the Paisa classic, a fan told EL COLOMBIANO: “Just before the teams came out, ‘Petro out’ began to be heard, and it became increasingly louder until it was heard in 90% of the stadium. That chant against the president lasted about 45 seconds and then the fans welcomed Atlético Nacional.”
