CJ Stroud Aims to be the Best Rookie Quarterback in the 2023 NFL Season After Impressing Defensive Giants

CJ Stroud was the second quarterback chosen in the 2023 Draft. However, he aims to be the best in his class in his first professional season. Even two of the best defensive players in the NFL consider him better than expected.

Through his podcast The EdgeDallas Cowboys defensive end Micah Parsons, along with fellow cornerback Stephon Gilmore, praised Stroud’s performance during the first nine weeks of the season.

“People made fun of him for his cognitive test results, but that doesn’t translate to the NFL. “He’s in the NFL and he doesn’t look like he’s a rookie,” Stroud said. “There were discussions about whether CJ or Bijan (Robinson) would be the Offensive Rookie of the Year. I think there is no debate, CJ will win the award unanimously.”

Stroud had a tremendous performance in Week 9, leading the Texans to victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Gilmore assured that his performance was elite and compared him to Tom Brady when he achieved a winning offensive drive in 47 seconds.

“47 seconds, that’s elite. “It’s Tom Brady-level stuff,” the former New England Patriots player said.

The Ohio State graduate has surprised everyone by throwing just one interception in 279 pass attempts. The rookie has completed 173 throws and accumulated 2,270 yards with 14 touchdown passes. Unfortunately, the offensive line has not given him the necessary protection as he has been sacked 18 times, enough for 6.1 percent of his attempts through the air.

The Texans’ losses for the duel against the Bengals

The matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals, corresponding to Week 10, will not be easy for Stroud because the Texans ruled out eight players. On offense, the absences will be tight end Brevin Jordan, running back Dameon Pierce and wide receiver Nico Collins. The defenders who will not be available to face the AFC North are linebacker Jake Hansen, safety Jimmie Ward and linebacker Henry To’oTo’o. They will even have to suffer the loss of kicker Ka’mi Fairbairn.
