Chris Paul’s Ongoing Feud with Referee Scott Foster Escalates at Warriors Game

The private feud between Chris Paul and referee Scott Foster went into the next round at the Golden State Warriors’ away game in Phoenix. The Point God was ejected in the first half after a heated discussion. Paul indicated that it was about his son.

“It’s something personal,” Paul said about his expulsion after the game. “There was an incident a few years ago and it’s been like this ever since. The league knows it, everyone knows it. There was a meeting once because it was also about my son,” Paul continued, but didn’t want to elaborate address what happened. “For me it’s okay if a referee uses clear words, but he doesn’t have to underline that with a technical foul,” Paul then directed the discussion back to the Suns game.

When asked, Paul at least confirmed that there was a meeting with CP3’s father, the then Clippers coach Doc Rivers and the then head of referees, Bob Delaney, during the Clippers’ time (between 2011 and 2017). Paul didn’t say anything more and pointed out that he didn’t want to be fined.

Shortly before the break, Kevin Durant had drawn a foul on Paul, but the latter saw it differently. As Durant prepared for his free throws, CP3 argued heatedly with Crew Chief Foster. He handed out a first technical foul, followed shortly afterwards by another. The cameras then captured what Paul had to say to Foster afterwards. “You’re a bitch,” Paul shouted several times, only to be calmed down by Stephen Curry.

NBA – Chris Paul receives support from coach Steve Kerr

Even coach Steve Kerr subsequently argued heatedly with Foster, and he also received a technical foul. “He didn’t deserve this ejection,” Kerr noted after the game. “The second T was completely unnecessary,” was the Warriors coach’s assessment. Kerr also said that Foster crossed a red line in the conversation, Stephen Curry saw it similarly: “Conversations between refs and players are normal and sometimes the players overdo it. But when both of them argue, I don’t like it when a referee Ts distributed.”

Kerr didn’t just have a problem with the referees, The Warriors coach was also annoyed by the atmosphere in the hall. “You just can’t hear anything in this hall,” complained Kerr. “It’s like a club on South Beach. What are we doing here? I’m serious. I couldn’t hear anything and that’s how the whole game goes. There’s this techno music playing all the time. Can’t we just play a basketball game? What to hell?” The Warriors ultimately lost 115:123 and are only 11th in the Western Conference with a record of 7-9.
