Chaumont Badminton Club Hosts Record-Breaking Tournament with Special Guest

It will indeed be an edition like no other. Although it is well established in the badminton calendar, the Poster tournament organized by the Chaumont Badminton Club is shaking up its habits this Saturday, November 25 and Sunday, November 26: new location, expanded organizing team and record participation at stake .

Exit the Lionel-Meunier gymnasium, it is at the new Decomble gymnasium, the club’s new reception structure since September, that the event will be held. In the absence of stands, the challenge for the organizers was to arrange the space. All the more significant since, this year, the club recorded a record participation, with more than 170 players registered for the weekend. Attendance which doubled compared to the previous edition.

Maikel, cousin of the Popov brothers, will be at the tournament

“Usually we organize the tournament in April or May. This repositioning in November comes at the right time, with few competing tournaments at this time,” confides Chaumont president Delphine Catalifaud. “In addition, we made sure to complete each singles or doubles draw the same day, to limit player travel. In this period when everything is expensive, this is obviously a plus.”

A plus which has clearly motivated the badists well beyond the Haut-Marnes borders since Alsatians, Burgundians, Lorrainers and even Ile-de-France residents, in particular, will make the trip to Chaumont, this Saturday (from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.) and this Sunday ( from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.), alongside the many players from Aube and Haute-Marne. Among those involved, players of all levels, from the most local to the national level, and even Maikel Popov, a cousin of brothers Toma junior and Christo Popovthe two French standards of badminton, respectively 25th and 29th in the world.
