Champions League: Game between SSC Napoli and Union Berlin ends without a winner

SSC Neapel – 1. FC Union Berlin 1:1 (1:0)

SSC Napoli and Union Berlin separated with a 1:1 (1:0) draw. Naples won the first leg 1-0. With the tie, Union Berlin ended a losing streak of twelve lost games across all competitions. The club had also lost all three games in the first half of the season.

In the early stages, Napoli almost took the lead twice. In the 24th minute, a ball from Neapolitan central defender Natan hit the post. A few minutes later, a ball from André Zambo Anguissa landed in the goal after a header pass from Giovanni Di Lorenzo (30th). However, the goal was disallowed because Di Lorenzo had previously leaned on Union player Jérôme Rouissillon.

Shortly before half-time, the home team finally managed to take the lead: Matteo Politano scored 1-0 for the SSC. The ball bounced off his chest and into the goal after a failed defensive attempt by Diogo Leite.

In the 53rd minute, David Fofana equalized with his goal to make it 1-1. A shot on goal by Becker after an assist from Fofana failed to reach the home team’s goalkeeper, but after his save the ball landed directly in front of Fofana, who sent it into the empty goal. Despite a long added time, neither Napoli nor Union managed another goal, so the score remained 1-1.

Naples are now second in Group C behind Real Madrid with seven points, while Union remains in last place in the group with one point.

On Tuesday, Borussia Dortmund won 2-0 against Newcastle United. RB Leipzig won 2-1 against Red Star Belgrade. You can find the match reports here.
