Champions League: despite the defeat in Milan, Paris can qualify from the next match

This is the charm of this group of death which keeps all its promises. At the end of the 4th day of the group stage of the Champions League, while PSG has just suffered its second defeat in total against AC Milan at San Siro (2-1) and the ranking is on cannot be any tighter, the Parisians can still ensure their qualification from the next day.

Second in the group with 6 points behind Dortmund (7 pts) and ahead of Milan (5 pts) and Newcastle (4 pts), the Parisians will have their ticket for the round of 16 in their pocket from November 28 in the evening if and only if they win at the Parc des Princes against Newcastle and, at the same time, the Rossoneri do not win in Dortmund.

Don’t miss the Parc against Newcastle and Dortmund

If Paris wins and Milan loses, the Parisians would be 5 points ahead of Newcastle and 4 over the Italians, which would bury any hope for the two clubs of catching up with them in the standings. Likewise, if Paris wins and Milan draws, the Reds and Blues would have a lead of three points… But would still be ranked ahead of the Milanese, even in the event of a tie on points at the end of the 6th day , thanks to the particular goal difference, the first criterion which separates the teams which have the same number of points. PSG won 3-0 in the first leg and “only” lost 2-1 in the return.

Despite its two defeats in four matches, which has only happened twice in the QSI era, Paris does not yet have too much reason to be depressed. We will have to be relentless, however, against Newcastle and Dortmund (December 13) to qualify with honors. As a reminder, the last time that PSG lost two group matches was during the 2020-2021 season, during which the capital club went… to the semi-final of the Champions League. All hope is therefore not lost.
