Cantù Faces Vigevano in a Historic Showdown

Cantù faces Vigevano away tomorrow at 6pm. A match which, throughout history, has featured few matches in the championship, many others linked to friendlies or the “legendary” Lombardy Trophy, a pre-season classic. But the history of Vigevano is somehow linked to that of Cantù. In past decades, the Pavia team often looked to Cantù to strengthen their team. The first was the great captain Lino Cappelletti, captain of Cantù and of the national team. But other players, after their experience in Brianza, also landed in Vigevano: this is the case for example of Dante Masocco and Antonio Frigerio. And the great coach Arnaldo Taurisano began his career in Vigevano, before moving to Cantù.

Tomorrow will be an important challenge for both of us. Cantù has the hope of catching Trapani at the top, even if the Sicilians will have a home match, not too complicated on paper, against Rieti. Vigevano wants to shake up his ranking, but has some problems on the roster. The injury suffered by Wideman (compound fracture of the jaw) will not prevent him from taking the field against S.Bernardo: he will be able to play, but with the support of him with a protective mask. However, the presence of D’Alessandro, recovering from a hip flexor injury, is unlikely. Cantù will still have to do without captain Baldi Rossi and Cesana.
