Cádiz City Council Organizes Race for Elimination of Violence Against Women

On November 19, Cádiz will run for the elimination of violence against women, to eradicate sexist violence, or that is the wish of the Cádiz City Council, which the events of 25-N has organized a non-competitive race with a 3-kilometer route through the historic center of the city. An appointment where the mayor of Cádiz, Bruno García, and the Councilor for Equality, Virginia Martín, invite “the participation of all families.”

This sporting and social event, which has the collaboration of the Olimpo and Bahía de Cádiz clubs and whose poster stars the athlete Esther Córdoba, will start from the San Antonio square at 11:00 a.m. although from 9:00 a.m. activities with entertainers, Zumba workshops and children’s gymkhana will begin. All people who wish can register at this link.

This activity is part of the program of activities organized by the Cádiz City Council for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and which begin this Tuesday, November 7, with the opening of the awareness campaign. “Today we are going to visualize one of the great struggles that this society must have which is the fight against sexist violence, which is why, starting today, the City Council is launching a communication and visualization campaign. Sexist violence is one of the cruelest problems that women suffer and that is why we reject it,” said the first mayor at the doors of the Municipal Women’s Foundation, in the Plaza del Palillero, where he was accompanied by good part of his Government team and the new manager of the center, Irene Fernández Cantero.

A campaign where, as the Equality Councilor has explained, “a lot of visibility” is offered to the emergency telephone number with 24-hour attention (900 212130) thanks to a poster that will be placed both on vinyl on the buses, where a video has also been made that will be projected on their screens, and in educational and leisure centers and citizen service centers, and which also has two large canvases that will be placed in the Women’s Foundation and in the Cádiz City Council.

Education and sport

In addition to the traditional awareness campaign and the new race, the programming of the 25N that the Consistory has prepared has, above all, in its sights education and sport.

Thus, they are going to celebrate 7 training workshops focused on different sectors with their different needs. From women’s associations, to which the Ana Bella Foundation course is directed Women in network (November 29th); to secondary schools, where the expert Ana Magallanes will help detect what sexist violence is (Emotional strategies to love in good treatment) and the Ana Bella Foundation offers training #ElAbusoNoEsAmor; passing through the business sector, where the Ana Bella Foundation will offer training on November 24 for women who want to become agents of change against gender violence in their work environments, they fit into the pedagogical offer where workshops are also scheduled for all citizens as Basic training in feminisms (registrations until November 16) and for all women over 16 years of age with the Feminist self-defense workshop (registrations until November 13).

In addition, as one of the milestones of the training program, a self-defense workshop is held given by the woman from Cádiz. Carmen Calvo, Judo Level I sports technician by the Royal Spanish Judo Federation, judo black belt and director for the education sector of the European Judo Union. It will be on November 23 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Comprehensive Women’s Center.

Calvo will not be the only athlete to participate in this highly marked 25N, as councilor Virginia Martín has recognized. “due to the latest events in women’s football. For this reason, from the City Council “we have opted for the importance of making sexist violence visible in the field of sport” and “being able to give a voice to all those athletes who can show us in first person how they can feel violated in this field that has been so masculinized.” “explained the councilor about a program they organize in collaboration with the Cádiz CF Foundation

Thus, refferents of Cadiz women’s sport such as the basketball player Begoña García and the soccer player Bibiana Vallín, as well as the athlete Esther Córdoba and the judoka Carmen Calvo, will be present in a conference that will be held in the press room of the Nuevo Mirandilla Stadium, as well as other workshops against sexist violence dedicated to children (reading workshop on the book Marta doesn’t give kisses and crafts workshop) and adolescence (to secondary schools) taught by the Márgenes y Vínculos Foundation.

The Cádiz CF players will also record a spot for the awareness campaign that will be advertised on municipal social networks and at large events, has assured the Councilor for Equality who anticipates that the city’s women’s associations are already preparing “the call for the 25N demonstration” and that their representatives will be the ones who spread the call.
