Bundesliga 11th matchday – Saturday: Bayern beats Heidenheim, Dortmund loses to Stuttgart

FC Bayern Munich – 1. FC Heidenheim 4:2 (2:0)

Led by Harry Kane, FC Bayern Munich has stormed to the top of the Bundesliga table for the time being. In the 4-2 win against promoted team 1. FC Heidenheim, England’s national team captain Kane scored his 16th and 17th Bundesliga goals in a wild game at times. He would have been top scorer in the previous season.

The 30-year-old made it 2-0 at halftime (14th/44th minute). Heidenheim showed heart after the break and fought their way back into the game against sloppy Bayern through Tim Kleindienst (67′) and Jan-Niklas Beste (70′). Raphaël Guerreiro put Bayern back in the lead eleven minutes after coming on as a substitute (72′). Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting then scored in the 85th minute.

The Munich team is going into their annual general meeting on Sunday as the front runners, where Kane cannot be celebrated because of the international trip. Bayer Leverkusen can push FC Bayern out of first place in the table with a win against 1. FC Union Berlin on Sunday.

VfB Stuttgart – Borussia Dortmund 2:1 (1:1)

Serhou Guirassy celebrated a dream comeback at VfB Stuttgart and gave Borussia Dortmund another setback. The striker came on as a substitute in the Swabians’ 2-1 win against BVB and scored the winning goal with a penalty kick in the 83rd minute.

Niclas Füllkrug (36th minute) gave BVB the lead, Deniz Undav (42nd) equalized. Then Guirassy decided the game as a joker. Stuttgart, previously tied on points with Dortmund, consolidated third place.

Dortmund are eight points behind league leaders FC Bayern Munich. BVB keeper Gregor Kobel made several strong saves, but also caused two penalties – and was only able to save one of them. Borussia also lost Mats Hummels, who had to leave the field with injuries.

FC Augsburg – TSG Hoffenheim 1:1 (0:1)

Thanks to a spectacular solo move from Ermedin Demirovic, FC Augsburg remains unbeaten under new coach Jess Thorup. Against TSG Hoffenheim, the FCA captain beat two opponents in a tight space when he scored to make the final score 1-1 and flicked the ball from the edge of the penalty area into the far corner (53rd minute). Hoffenheim, who didn’t win for the first time in their sixth away game of the season, took the lead through Wout Weghorst (23′).

Bundesliga newcomer Thorup has already scored eight points in four games as FCA coach. There were almost ten. But attacker Demirovic was denied by substitute Arne Engels’ pass in the 81st minute due to the strong reaction of Hoffenheim goalkeeper Oliver Baumann. Shortly afterwards, Augsburg’s midfielder Niklas Dorsch missed the shot after a solo run (84′).

The game had to be briefly interrupted in the 58th minute because of a firecracker set off in the fan block and one fan was treated.

SV Darmstadt 98 – 1. FSV Mainz 05 0:0 (0:0)

No winner in the neighborhood duel: Darmstadt 98 and FSV Mainz 05 separated goalless and are still stuck in the lower places in the table.

There were many duels and bad passes on both sides. When things went forward with determination, the necessary precision was lacking in the end.

The draw helps neither the Hessians (eight points) nor the Mainz team (seven), who are at least still unbeaten under interim coach Jan Siewert, in the relegation battle. The two clubs are in 15th and 16th place, and Cologne and Union Berlin could overtake them on Sunday.
