Breaking Makes Its Debut at Santiago 2023 Pan American Games

Santiago de Chile, Nov 3 (EFE).- The sport of ‘breaking’ debuted this Friday at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, supported by hundreds of people of all ages who attended the Chimkowe Gymnasium in the commune of Peñalolén.

Twelve judges, all known “b-boys” – the name given to the dancers who stand out in this new Olympic sport – were responsible for giving votes to the competitors – male and female – from a dozen countries that They seek the only qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The “b-boys” and “b-girls” were divided into four groups and were measured in three rounds of “all against all” in a similar circle where some well-known combat sports such as judo, taekwondo or wrestling battle, but with their respective street-style dance routines as they originated in New York in the 1970s.

In the men’s division, Canadians Onton and Phil Wizard, and Chilean Matita advanced from Group A. From Group B, the American Jeffro, the Colombian Alvin and the Dominican Dux-M advanced.

Likewise, from Group C the American Gravity, the Brazilian Rato and the Argentine Broly remain alive, and from Group D the Venezuelan Lil G, the Brazilian Leony and the Colombian Ricky Rulez were promoted to the quarterfinals.

From this last group, the Chilean Daf withdrew from the competition due to an injury.

In the women’s division, from Group A the American Sunny, the Brazilian Mini Japa and the Chilean Menta advanced.

In Group B, the Colombian Luma, the Ecuadorian Isis and the Chilean Vale Chica advanced, while from Group C the Canadians Tiff and Emma, ​​and the Ecuadorian Lakshmi Hop also advanced, and from Group D the American La Vix, the Mexican Swami and the Argentine Abril.

The quarterfinals, semifinals and final will take place on Saturday. EFE
