Boston Celtics, the six-man meeting called by Jayson Tatum

Before the Boston Celtics started the season, Jayson Tatum took it upon himself to call a meeting. This included the Celtics’ “starting six”: Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Jrue Holiday, Al Horford, Kristaps Porzingis and Derrick White.

No coaches or other teammates were present, just the six veterans gathered to talk about the upcoming season.

“I wanted us to get in a room and talk about it,” Tatum told ESPN. “We’re all human and we have feelings, and I opened the door and basically said, ‘There are six of us. Only five can play at the same time. One of us won’t always finish the game.

“Whether it’s fair or not, me and JB will probably always start and finish the game. But we have to be held to a different standard and be able to be coached differently. Whether it’s KP or Al, one of you might not finish a match, and you have to accept that.”

Tatum’s goal is to avoid problems in the future, when defeats can spark dissension.
