Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen: Max Eberl Not Expected as New Sports Director Soon

CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen of Bayern Munich does not expect Max Eberl to be hired as a possible new sports director in the near future. “The chairman of the board usually gets involved in things like this. That hasn’t happened yet, so I don’t think there will be a decision on it tomorrow,” he said after Bayern’s annual general meeting with a view to the supervisory board meeting on Monday.

According to reports, Eberl’s personality should at least be dealt with there. “I can’t tell you that because: That’s a matter for the supervisory board,” replied Dreesen when asked whether the former Gladbach and Leipzig manager Eberl would come to the German record champions. But he has known Eberl “for a few years” and has “no reason not to have good feelings about it in any way,” added the Bayern boss. “From a technical point of view, I wouldn’t like to assume an opinion on this,” he emphasized.

The position of sports director has been vacant at Munich since parting ways with Hasan Salihamidzic last May. In September, former Salzburg player Christoph Freund took up the position of sports director for the German record champions. Eberl could still move up a level, as he is considered the preferred candidate of honorary president Uli Hoeneß, who is also a member of the supervisory board with boss Herbert Hainer.
