Athenas Sports Club Crowned Champions of Andalusia Absolute Judo

JAÉN.- The Athenas Sports Club, from the city of Jaén, has been proclaimed Champion of
Andalusia Absolute Judo after winning the Andalusian medal table thanks to the
three golds, one silver and one bronze achieved by their judokas. The competition had
place in the Malaga town of Mollina. Katerina García in the weight of 70 kilograms, Manuel Jiménez in 81 kg, and Pablo Buendía in 90 kg are the new Champions of Andalusia of Judo, while Alejandro Martínez and Álvaro Cantero achieved a runner-up position and a third place in the weights of 81 and 90 kilograms respectively.

A quality participation Katerina García opened the Jaén medal table by becoming champion in the 70 kilogram category of this absolute Andalusian Championship. Our representative, who started as one of the favorites, won all of her matches and rose to the top of the podium accompanied by Luna Sánchez from Seville, Alba Guzmán from Almería and Arián Martínez from Malaga, in that order.

Total dominance in the weight of 81 kilograms by the judokas from Jaén who competed in the final of the Andalusian championship after leaving behind high-level competitors such as Theo Pino from Cádiz and Vicente Giles from Malaga, regional and national medalists in the last edition and this year they had to settle for the bronze medals. The gold and silver went to our two representatives in this weight, that is, Manuel Jiménez and Alejandro Martínez respectively. It was almost enough to repeat the Jaén final in the 90 kilogram category, where Pablo Buendía won the gold medal and Álvaro Cantero won bronze, after both completing a competition where they showed great superiority over their rivals. Our two representatives were accompanied on the podium by Jorge Garrido and Carlos Romero from Malaga, silver and bronze respectively.
