On May 11, 2022, gravel rider Anna Moriah ‘Mo’ Wilson (25) was shot in Texas. The perpetrator was an ex-gravel rider: Kaitlin Armstrong (35). The motive: jealousy. Wilson was the ex-girlfriend of the famous gravel rider and partner of Armstrong Colin Strickland (37). The day of the murder, Strickland had arranged to meet with Wilson. Five minutes after Strickland dropped his ex-girlfriend off at a friend’s house in the evening, Armstrong drove up and shot her love rival in cold blood. Armstrong would have been able to follow her partner via the cycling app Strava.

Armstrong was soon arrested by the police, but had to be released due to a procedural error. Armstrong dyed her hair brown, had plastic surgery on her nose and fled to Costa Rica. She was arrested there 43 days later in a hostel.

And now the former gravel rider also knows her punishment. The court in the American city of Austin has sentenced Armstrong to 90 years in prison for first-degree murder. On top of that, she risks an extra twenty years because she made another (failed) escape attempt in October.
