Lierse – Antwerp 1-4

After the hammer blows of recent weeks, national champion Antwerp knows what winning is again. The Great Old was not surprised by second division Lierse and advanced to the eighth finals of the Croky Cup with an obvious 1-4 score.

Visé – KRC Genk 0-4

As expected, KRC Genk qualified relatively easily for the eighth finals of the Belgian Cup in Visé (0-4). Wouter Vrancken allowed many substitutes from recent months to gain match rhythm, Sor, Ouattara, Zeqiri and Bonsu Baah found their way to goal.

Union – Meux 2-1

Union continues to convert, but that was not evident against RFC Meux (Second National). The amateur club defended itself bravely and actually came alongside in the 82nd minute after Leysen had previously given Union the lead, but Rasmussen immediately put things in order a minute later. Union continues to convert after a measly 2-1 victory.

TUESDAY

Eupen-Oostende 0-2

Eupen was the first 1A club to be eliminated in the early evening. The Pandas lost on their own field against KV Oostende, the penultimate in the Challenger Pro League. Club Brugge loanee Daniel Perez and the young Belgian Mohamed Berte scored the goals for KVO.

Knokke-KV Mechelen *1-1 (penalties: 5-4)

In Knokke (First National) we got the first extensions of the evening. Things are not going well for KV Mechelen in the competition and things were also very difficult in the cup on Tuesday evening. It was only in minute 107 that Kerim Mrabti broke the ban for KV, but five minutes later Knokke actually leveled through Ruben Vanraefelghem and so we got penalties. Jordi Vanlerberghe missed the first and Knokke didn’t miss a single one: 5-4, for the second time in history the first national can go to the 1/8th finals.

Thes Sport-Charleroi 0-3

The least exciting match of the evening. Charleroi was the only 1A club that had it fairly easy and beat the Limburgers of Thes Sport (First National) thanks to goals from Youssouph Badji, Zan Rogelj and Daan Heymans.

Cercle Brugge-Zulte Waregem 2-2* (penalties: 3-4)

Cercle coach Miron Muslic did not underestimate Zulte Waregem and played with a strong team against the leader of the Challenger Pro League. It was a fun game of cup football, perhaps the best match of the evening. Cercle seemed to be on its way to victory after taking the lead fifteen minutes before the end through a great goal by substitute Yann Gboho, but in injury time Jelle Vossen, who had also come on, made it 2-2 with a penalty.

During extra time, Cercle pressed seriously, but just like in Knokke, we were awarded penalties. Essevee goalkeeper Ennio van der Gouw grabbed two and only Rommens missed for Zulte Waregem. Zinho Gano, the top scorer in the Challenger Pro League, eventually scored the decisive one. After Eupen and KV Mechelen, Cercle has also been eliminated.

La Louvière-Anderlecht 0-1

Coach Brian Riemer chose ten different names in La Louvière (First National) compared to the last competition match. Only Zeno Debast remained standing. Even Benito Raman was allowed to play again and it was he who scored the only goal of the match after fumbling in La Louvière’s defense. RSCA did not have an easy time of it, but never really got into trouble.

STVV Francs Borains 3-0

There was also a lot of rotation at STVV and it showed. The Canaries had a tough time against Francs Borains, number fourteen in the Challenger Pro League, and did not score in regular time. This was achieved after five minutes in extra time. Striker Kahveh Zahiroleslam broke the spell and eventually Shinji Okazaki and Jarne Steuckers made it 3-0 deep in extra time.
