Annemiek van Vleuten is organizing an attic clearing this Saturday. In Wageningen, at Roel Peerenboom Fietsen, the Dutch woman will sell old shirts for the last time in aid of charity. Last year the proceeds were no less than 17,000 euros.

This year, the proceeds from the sale will go to the Olrik Foundation from Wageningen, to the ‘I’m swimming along’ project to be precise. “The ‘I’m swimming along’ project is for families whose income is below a certain limit, for which the swimming lessons for the children are paid for. That is one of the initiatives they have and I thought it was a very nice initiative that was right up my alley to encourage exercise in children. Every child should simply learn to swim and I am very happy that I can contribute to that,” says Van Vleuten on her website.

“In recent years there has been so much interest in a number of special items that I have now decided to auction them. This year I have plenty of unique items again! In recent years I have started keeping jersey numbers or even never taking the numbers off the clothing. I expect these unique items to fetch good amounts of money. These 15 items that I will be auctioning can be admired in the store from 3 p.m. And soon after that, I will stand on a staircase in the store and use my voice volume, so that people can bid on the items.”

For example, Van Vleuten will sell her shirt that she wore during her last Tour of Flanders. Furthermore, her last leader’s jersey and the suit from the World Cup in Glasgow will also be for sale. “Afterwards there is also the opportunity to have your picture taken with me. That is 20 euros for adults and 10 euros for children up to 16 years old. And you can also have something signed for 10 euros per item,” concludes Van Vleuten.
