Everything is ready for the start of the highly anticipated speed weekend in Beaver Creek (United States). The 2023-2024 Alpine Skiing World Cup, therefore, will make a stop in the snows of Colorado on the famous slope called “Birds of Prey”, one of the fastest and most complicated of the entire calendar but which, at the same time, has given little satisfaction to the blue colors in recent editions.
Let’s go in order and start with the descent. The Birds of Prey made its debut in the White Circus on December 4, 1997 and was immediately tinged with blue. In fact, Kristian Ghedina wins the race ahead of the Frenchman Jean-Luc Crétier and the Norwegian Lasse Kjus. The Ampezzo native also achieved third place to complete an excellent weekend November 27, 1999 behind the Austrians Hermann Maier and Stephan Eberharter. After that, you have to wait November 30, 2012 with Christof Innerhofer triumphing ahead of Norwegians Aksel Lund Svindal and Kjetil Jansrud. Moving on to December 6, 2013Peter Fill was third in the race won by Aksel Lund Svindal, ahead of the Austrian Hannes Reichelt.
Different story regarding the super Mr. In fact, the first success only came on December 1, 2012 with an amazing Matteo Marsaglia preceding Aksel Lund Svindal and the Austrian Hannes Reichelt. The December 7, 2013, therefore, Peter Fill finishes in third place behind the Swiss Patrick Kung and the Austrian Otmar Striedinger. Finally the December 1, 2018 we find the last podium for the Italian colors with Dominik Paris, third in the race won by the Austrian Max Franz with the Swiss Mauro Caviezel second.
In last two seasonsInstead, Birds of Prey turns into the “Aleksander Aamodt Kilde show”. The Norwegian, in fact, literally dominated the scene far and wide. Success in the downhill on 4 December 2021 and 3 December 2022, then a double also in super-G on 3 December 2021 and 4 December 2022. A curiosity? In these races the native of Bærum has always preceded Marco Odermatt. The Italians, however, have never finished close to the podium.
