Alexander Zverev didn’t celebrate. On the way to the net, he reached for the spare ball in his pants with his left hand and held his palms up as if to say, “It’s no big deal, is it?” Then the 26-year-old gently hit the ball into the audience and shook hands with Carlos Alcaraz, the Wimbledon winner six years his junior, whom he had just somewhat surprisingly defeated in three sets at the start of the ATP Finals in Turin.

After his serious ligament injury, Germany’s best tennis player has moved a little closer to absolute world class at the year-end tournament. In terms of sport, things are going well again for the seventh in the world rankings. But outside the tennis courts, new, serious allegations have been accompanying him for months. From the outside, it seems that Zverev can shake off the problems. In the fight for reputation, sponsors and your image, it’s not that easy.
