Alexander Zverev and Holger Rune Join the ATP Finals Train in Turin

Alexander Zverev and Holger Rune were the last to jump on the finals train.

While the Olympic champion from Hamburg has already won the event twice (2018, 2021) and is taking part for the sixth time this season, Rune is breaking new ground. Much to the delight of his new trainer Boris Becker.

“That is the big goal, the task,” Becker emphasized exclusively to Eurosport.de shortly after he took over as coach at Rune. Germany’s tennis icon and Denmark’s shooting star have now completed two tournaments together.

A clear upward trend can already be seen. In Basel, Rune made it to the semi-finals, and at the Masters in Paris-Bercy he only ended in the quarter-finals against superstar Novak Djokovic.

Record hunt: Djokovic wants to distance Federer

The Serb is the defending champion in Turin’s Pala Alpitour and is the clear favorite, especially since Carlos Alcaraz recently revealed weaknesses. Djokovic could become the sole record holder with his seventh title; so far he has shared this honor with Roger Federer, who has also triumphed six times.

As in the singles, the field is now also in the doubles competition. The defending champions Rajeev Ram (USA) and Joe Salisbury (GBR) are back in the game.

In addition, Ivan Dodig (CRO)/Austin Krajicek (USA), Wesley Koolhof (NED)/Neal Skupski (GBR), Rohan Bopanna (IND)/Matthew Ebden (AUS), Marcel Granollers (ESP)/Horacio Zeballos (ARG), Santiago Gonzalez (MEX)/Edouard Roger-Vasselin (FRA), Maximo Gonzalez (ARG)/Andres Molteni (ARG) and Rinky Hijikata (AUS)/Jason Kubler (AUS).

In Turin there is record prize money of 15 million US dollars at stake. If the champion goes undefeated throughout the event, he will receive more than $4.8 million, the largest prize money for a single player in tennis history.
