Wimbledon winner Carlos Alcaraz celebrated his first victory at the ATP Finals in Turin. Two days after the opening defeat against the German Alexander Zverev, the 20-year-old Spaniard beat the Russian Andrej Rublew 7:5 6:2 in the red group on Wednesday.
Alcaraz only needed 74 minutes for his success and thus preserved his chance of reaching the semi-finals. Rublev, who lost at the start against his compatriot Daniil Medvedev, no longer has a chance of progressing.
With Alcaraz’s victory, Zverev can already book his ticket to the semi-finals in the evening game. If the world number seven wins against Medvedev (ATP No. 3), he will be guaranteed a place in the semi-finals. Otherwise the decision will be made on Friday.
