Adolis García Wins Gold Glove Award for Best Right Fielder in the American League

To the “season” that Cuban Adolis García spent, especially in play-off instances, the “Bombi” added to his World Series title by having received the Gold Glove Award, as the best right fielder in the American League.

Major League Baseball (MLB) announced this weekend the Gold Glove awards in each league, selected by a group of managers, coaches and statistical analysts.

“Twenty-five percent of the total selection was determined by the SABR Defensive Index metrics, while the other 75 percent was determined by the votes of the 30 managers and up to six coaches from each team,” a communication from MLB Trade Rumorsin which it explains the procedure to follow.

Of the latter group, managers and coaches were limited to voting for players from their own league, and were not allowed to vote for any players from their own team.

“The Gold Glove was not determined by any vote, but rather through a defensive formula calculated by SABR and Rawlings.”

Two of the best Cuban baseball players of the season appeared among the finalists, Luis Robert Jr. (White Sox) and José Adolis García (Texas Rangers), one in center field and the other in right field.

In short, the World Series champion was the only representative of the island to win the coveted recognition.
