BarcelonaThe National Police has arrested a 39-year-old man for the murder of his 34-year-old wife at their home in Sagunt (Camp de Morvedre), and is investigating the circumstances in which the daughter of both, a 13-year-old girl , has fallen through the roof of the building from a second floor. If what several Valencian newspapers point out is finally confirmed and it is a sexist crime, with this woman there are already 54 victims of sexist violence this 2023 throughout the State and the sixth in the Valencian Country. Since the count of victims began 20 years ago, 1,239 have been recorded.
The events took place this Wednesday afternoon at the home shared by all three in the town of Sagunto. The man attacked the woman with a knife and cut her throat. When the police arrived at the building, the woman was already dead. As for the circumstances surrounding the daughter’s fall, officers are investigating whether it was an accidental fall or, on the contrary, was caused by her father. The minor was seriously injured as a result of the strong impact and was taken to a hospital. Later, the man was arrested and linked to the crime.
According to the information collected by the newspaper The Provinces, the woman had started the procedures for the separation. This moment, that of the woman’s decision to end the relationship, is one of the most risky, like pregnancy or postpartum, since the aggressors feel like the power and control they have been exercising is coming to an end and they react violently under the command of “mine or nobody” and understand that the woman wants to restart a new life away from him.
Also, when children are involved, abusers use them to hurt the mother, criticizing her in front of the children, kidnapping or murdering them. It is what is called vicarious violence.
