A Basket for Women: Fundraising Event to Combat Violence Against Women

Objective: go to the basket to combat violence against women. A very difficult mission, as unfortunately the daily news dramatically demonstrates. But the Equal Opportunities Committee of the Order of Chartered Accountants and Accounting Experts of Monza and Brianza still wants to make its contribution by organizing a sporting event with fundraising for solidarity purposes. Today in Monza, at the Nei sports center in via Enrico da Monza 6, the initiative “A basket for women will take place from 9.45am to 1pm. Stop the violence!“. On the parquet of the Monza facility, the team of the Associazione Basket Medici Milano and a team made up of accountants and accounting experts from the Order of Monza and Brianza will face each other in a basketball match.

Entry requires a free donation to be made at the time (with a minimum amount of 15 euros) which will be donated to the Cadom of Monza (in the photo). The Battered Women’s Help Center is an association that operates in the area and has always been at the forefront in helping women who have suffered violence in their lives. The initiative was set up on the occasion of the next International Day against Violence against Women, which is celebrated every year on 25 November. The invitation, obviously, is not only intended for basketball fans, but for all those who want to make a concrete gesture in defense of women, who are increasingly victims of acts of violence by former teammates who react madly at the end of a relationship. “In a situation like the current one – comments Alfonso Villa, chartered accountant, member of the Equal Opportunities Committee of the Order of Chartered Accountants and Accounting Experts of Monza and Brianza – it becomes essential to think about a return to the origins, privileging human relationships over to the detriment of social media. We have young people who seem on the verge of breaking the world, but then we discover that they have strong fragilities and that they are unable to overcome real difficulties. We must ask ourselves what we have passed on to these young people. These difficulties and these problems must be intercepted immediately within the family and in the school context”.

Cadom was born in 1994 in Monza, based on the ten-year experience of the shelter for abused women in Milan (Cadmi): it is a voluntary association. Here women victims of violence can find information and concrete help. Cadom provides reception paths and psychological support. But it also guarantees legal advice and support for autonomy. The headquarters of the battered women’s help center is located in via Mentana 43 in Monza. The telephone number 0392840006 is open 24 hours a day. The e-mail address is [email protected].
