2 against KSC connection upwards

Hertha BSC remains stuck in mid-table in the 2nd Bundesliga. Coach Pal Dardai’s team couldn’t score more than 2:2 (2:1) in their atmospheric home game against Karlsruher SC and are still a whopping six points behind the relegation place. The cushion towards the relegation zone is now a little narrower at four points.

Fabian Reese (29th) and Florian Niederlechner (42nd) turned the game around before the break after Deyovaisio Zeefuik’s own goal (10th). Then Leon Jensen (81st) struck back. With the draw, the Baden team pushed Schalke into the relegation place, but there was only one win in the last nine league games.

Karlsruher SC started surprisingly confidently and took control of the game in the early stages. After a great corner variation, Zeefuik unfortunately stumbled the ball into his own goal. As a result, Hertha got into the game better, Reese nodded in a cross from Marten Winkler from a tight angle. The favorite now combined very well, after a backheel pass from Haris Tabakovic, Niederlechner ended his goal drought with a header.

In the second half, Karlsruhe showed a good reaction and pushed for the equalizer. Tjark Ernst scratched Igor Matanovic’s header out of the corner with a strong save (48′). Hertha, for its part, waited for counterattack opportunities, but was too careless with its numerous opportunities. Among other things, Reese hit the post after a mistake by Patrick Drewes (61st). Jensen punished the usury of chances with a deflected shot.
