William Junior Lecerf Triumphs in Oggiono Race, Beating Irishman Archie Ryan in Dramatic Sprint Finish

On the tough course of 170 kilometers around the start and finish town of Oggiono, William Junior Lecerf caught up with the previously escaped Irishman Archie Ryan about 20 kilometers from the finish.

In a pressing sprint, our compatriot ultimately proved to be smarter and stronger than the Irishman from the Jumbo – Visma promising team. Ryan will turn pro at EF next year.

Just under a minute later, Ramses De Bruyne sprinted to third place and two Belgians were on the podium in Oggiono. Alec Segaert, last year’s winner, was the third Belgian in the top 10 in eighth place.

“We were here with a strong team and a plan and we brought that plan to a successful conclusion,” says Lecerf. “I had fantastic legs, made the right choice at the right time and had enough power left for the sprint.”

Lecerf, an East Flemish climbing talent, signed a professional contract with Soudal – Quick Step earlier this year for the next three seasons. This season he finished fifth in the Tour of the Future and eighth in the Tour of Italy for promises.
