Sandro Tonali, like several other Italian players, is accused of placing illegal bets. The midfielder is even said to have bet on players from his early clubs. He has since admitted to having a gambling addiction.
Even during his time at AC Milan – from where he moved to the Magpies in the summer for 64 million euros – he is said to have bet on his team’s games.
An offense that could cost him dearly. Italian and English media unanimously report that Tonali will be banned for at least ten months. There is also a high fine.
If the verdict were announced soon, Tonali would not be eligible to play again until the end of August 2024. But he will most likely still be in the squad against BVB.

There is still no official verdict. According to information from the Times, UEFA wanted to ensure that the ban was implemented in time for the kick-off of the game between Newcastle United and BVB. But nothing will probably come of it because apparently not all the details have been clarified yet.
Newcastle had already assumed on Tuesday that Tonali would be an option for the important duel with Borussia Dortmund.
