1. FC Union suffered its tenth defeat in a row. The Berliners are the worse and, above all, undisciplined team in Bremen. This is particularly evident in two scenes. Things could now get tight for coach Fischer.

The crisis at Union Berlin is getting worse and worse. The capital city team also lost 0-2 (0-1) at Werder Bremen on Saturday, thus suffering their tenth competitive defeat in a row. The pressure on coach Urs Fischer is increasing after the weak performance on the Weser.

For Bremen, after three defeats in a row, there was another three-pointer, which also strengthened Werder coach Ole Werner. It was the first ever home win against the Union team in the Bundesliga. Werder had previously lost to Berlin three times in front of their own crowd.

The completely unsettled Union team noticed all of these blows in the neck in Bremen. Apart from a harmless finish from Christopher Trimmel in the first minute, the guests achieved nothing. A solid performance was enough for Bremen, who were also in crisis recently, to take the lead at the break.

Own goal and red card – Union’s missteps in Bremen

After a sharp free kick cross from Ducksch, Robin Knoche unfortunately headed the ball into his own goal. And the own goal shouldn’t be the only misfire for the Berliners, whose nerves are increasingly on edge.

After the break, the situation became even more precarious for the guests. In the 47th minute, Sheraldo Becker demanded the ball from a ball boy on the sideline, who was already holding the game equipment out to him. Becker took it and simply pushed the boy to the ground because it was all going too slowly for him. The Dutchman was not punished for his omission. For now, it should be noted.

In any case, the DFB will deal with Rani Khedira. He was shown a red card after a violent kick against Romano Schmid in the center circle (60′). The Berliners didn’t get a significant chance in the entire second half, so the Werder defense, which was heavily weakened by replacement goalkeeper Michael Zetterer, was never seriously threatened. After Marvin Ducksch made it 2-0, the game was decided and there was no more resistance from the Berliners.

Will Fischer remain Union coach?

The Berliners, who have to play against VfB Stuttgart in the DFB Cup on Tuesday, showed another performance on the Weser with many of the symptoms of a relegation season.

Of course the question arises about the coach. Will Urs Fischer stay despite the terrible series? Manager Oliver Ruhnert referred to discussions behind the scenes: “We said last week – and this continues to apply – that we are discussing things internally and want to overcome this really difficult time together for the first time and get it back on track.”

So things could be tight for the man who led Berlin from the second division into the Champions League. Fischer said after the game: “We experienced so many great moments. Now it’s really storming. These are situations that you have to endure. We still want to solve this situation together. It must and will continue. I will set the best example and prepare the team accordingly for the game against Stuttgart.”
