“We will continue to be David before Goliath”

Coach Jesús Ortiz is in the news after classifying Portuguesa FC to Libertadores, after 40 years, 3 months and 4 days.

“A great institution that deserved this, I have good material and the players responded in a big way. I feel a lot of joy, returning that happiness to the people of this plains state, soccer land. It was a quite difficult and complicated challenge, due to the years they had not achieved it, with the coaching staff and players who had passed.”

“It’s good to be able to give that satisfaction to the fans who were always there through thick and thin,” he said, super happy.

Coach Jesús Ortiz took over on March 3, after the third date had been played. In its debut, it managed to draw against Caracas in the capital of the republic. Their numbers were 13 wins, 6 draws and 5 losses.

On Saturday he sealed the great feat after beating Angostura two by one in Ciudad Bolívar. They did spectacularly as a visitor, winning 7 times, being the second best club away from home. Ortiz has directed 40 matches and is now a respected and senior helmsman.

“With work and effort, goals are achieved. I also appreciate the support of the rest of my coaching staff and the board of directors, always grateful,” added the 35-year-old strategist.
