Violent Incidents Before OM-OL: Lyon Coach Injured and Match Canceled

Four buses stoned, the Lyon coach and his assistant injured, arrests and sanctions to come. The incidents before OM-OL on Sunday evening will leave their mark.

How is Grosso?

Already in tough sporting conditions with a catastrophic record since his arrival (1 out of 12), Fabio Grosso is definitely having a complicated start in France. The Italian, hit by glass projections just above the eye, was stitched up in the evening. The twelve stitches go down to his eyelid: proof that the consequences could have been dramatic within a few millimeters. However, he will be able to quickly return to his position normally, with a bandage on the affected part.

Who is responsible ?

It was more than likely Marseille supporters who threw the paving stones on the Lyon buses (three fan buses and the team bus). Nine of them have already been arrested and two investigations have been opened. The South Winners supporters group denied being responsible.

And even if Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas wants OM to be partly held responsible, the Marseille club should not be worried, given that the excesses took place 500 meters from the stadium, on the road public. “This is not our responsibility,” Arnaud Rouger, general director of the LFP, also said at the microphone of RMC Arnaud Rogier.

What sanctions?

The latter says he fully supports the statements of the Minister of the Interior who calls for greater firmness of justice with regard to the perpetrators of these particularly serious acts. The two clubs filed a complaint, as did the League. The bus attackers risk exemplary criminal sanctions. In any case, this is what is being claimed.

The match replayed?

The Competitions Commission meets this Thursday and will have to find a new date. The meeting could be held behind closed doors.
