Marciano Vink expects Justin Bijlow to become the first goalkeeper of the Dutch national team again when he is fully fit again. The analyst said this on Wednesday evening in the Voetbalpraat program on ESPN. Feyenoord’s goalkeeper has been sidelined in recent months with a wrist injury, but seems to be ready for his return.

In the talk show, presenter Jan Joost van Gangelen asks whether Bijlow should immediately be the first goalkeeper under the bar for the Rotterdam team, now that he has recovered. “I say absolutely yes,” answers Yordi Yamali, one of the three guests.

“I think the division of roles at Feyenoord is very clear,” Yamali continues. “Last year, Wellenreuther did a fantastic job. Maybe some crucial saves in winning the title. But I think that a fit Bijlow goalkeeper is one of Feyenoord’s goals. Everyone involved knows that.”

Vink also thinks that Slot would do well to simply choose Bijlow again. “He has to keep goal anyway. That is also the agreement,” the analyst begins.

He then makes a jump to the Dutch national team. The Dutch team had to make do without Bijlow during the past two international matches, which left the big question as to who would be behind the bar. National coach Ronald Koeman ultimately chose Mark Fleken twice and Bart Verbruggen twice.

Vink: “We now have Verbruggen in the Dutch national team, who has delivered two reasonably good games (against France and Greece, ed.). Only I think that if Bijlow is fit again there, and he shows again what he actually before his injury, he is the number one in the Netherlands again. That man has so much charisma…”

So far, Bijlow, who made his international debut in September 2021, has made eight appearances for the Dutch national team. He kept a clean sheet three times. Next month the Dutch team will play two international matches again. Bijlow may be under the bar again.
