Verstappen and Alonso, heads and tails in Mexico – Tear it off, for God’s sake!

One more weekend the battle has been behind the first position in which the already world champion has established himself race after race, Max Verstappen. There was a fight, yes, but between Mercedes and Ferrari for the podium and between the rest of the drivers to reach the points cutoff. We have already pointed this out on several occasions: If we took Verstappen out of the equation, the World Cup would have been much more entertaining and contested. In fact, the spectacle was given by a driver who did not reach the podium but who cheered up the Mexican GP with a comeback of 12 positions that drew applause from the public at the Hermanos Rodríguez circuit. It is not surprising that Red Bull wants him as a replacement for a Czech Perez who had to abandon his home grand prix after colliding with Leclerc in the first corner. It is a problem for the F1 spectacle, but the merit of the tandem achieved between the Dutchman and Red Bull must be applauded.

Not even a red flag, the one that caused Kevin Magnussen after his accident on lap 36, but neither would Ferrari’s one-stop strategy, or Mercedes’ aggressive choice of medium tires after the race resumed, have prevented Verstappen from winning again.

If we had to say something positive it is that at least Ferrari Over the course of the championship, they have managed to compete and even win the classification battle and score some first line, which they lose, yes, a few meters after the starting line.

In the case of Aston Martinneither the strategy in the stops nor the choice of tires have saved a weekend to forget for Fernando Alonso, who has recognized that the lack of confidence in the car has left him with “the foot changed” and very far from the level that everyone, including himself, expected in this grand prix. The latest evolutions of the English team have increased the doubts and the lack of performance of the car which suggests that The team has not understood the car with which they startedsuccessfully, the season.

The green car has gone from being a noble and fast car in twisty and slow areas, and that only seemed to lack top speed, to a nervous and unpredictable car in all types of sectors. But Mexico seems to have been the last straw in this situation if we take into account that Lance Stroll, who has not managed to match the performance of his teammate at any time during the season, managed to overtake the Spaniard on the track starting from the pit lane. The grand prize ended in the worst way, with Fernando retiring… and that’s two consecutive abandonments.

Nobody talks about 33 anymore because it seems like a chimera, not only because of the unattainable superiority of Max Verstappen, but also because of the lack of direction in the team and the notable improvement of teams like Ferrari, Mercedes and even McLaren.
