UP State Senior Ranking Badminton Championship to Kick Off in Pilibhit City

PILIBHIT: UP state senior ranking badminton championship is scheduled to begin on October 27 at Gandhi stadium in Pilibhit city.

Badminton lovers are eagerly waiting for the tournament to begin. Aditya Yadav, a hearing impaired girl from Gorakhpur, had represented the Indian badminton team in Brazil Deaflympics in May last year. Notably, the Indian badminton team had bagged a gold medal in this international event. Yadav is set to perform at the event this year.

According to president of district badminton association, Anil Mahendru, “The management of UP badminton association has given the opportunity to Pilibhit for organising the state championship for the second time. This comes after last year’s state-level tournament had been titled as the best event in the entire state.”

“This championship would pave the way for selection of the state’s badminton team which would take part in the national badminton championship to be organised in West Bengal in the third week of next month. As many as 150 contestants from across the state would participate including players Neer Nehwal of Noida, Anshal Vishal Gupta of Agra, Tushar Gagneja of Lucknow, Kesari Yadav of Gorakhpur, and many more,” Mahendru added.

The assistant secretary of UP badminton association, Rajesh Saxena, said that a 10-member technical team would supervise and monitor the matches. “This team includes Lucknow-based referee, Ravi Dixit, Unnao-based match controller, Mayank Kumar, and Saharanpur-based state umpires Manish Kumar and Anshul Kumar, etc.,” he said.

“The local organizing committee would be headed by Pilibhit DM Praveen Kumar Laxkar while city magistrate Sunil Kumar Singh would be the vice president of the committee,” Saxena added.
