Unrest and Unresolved Issues at Karlsruher SC: A Deepening Crisis

Things are anything but smooth at Karlsruher SC right now. In the league, the Eichner team has been without a win for five games and is in 14th place in the table with nine points after nine games. In addition to the sporting misery, discussions within the club are causing further unrest.

Unrest at KSC

First, an article in the “Badische Neusten Nachrichten” (BNN) caused discussions. According to the daily newspaper, the former KSC savior and ex-president of the club Gerhard Seiler only received a ticket for the east stand and is therefore said to have no longer come to the stadium.

The KSC reacted in a statement and announced that “in principle, all former presidents are invited to every game in the new hospitality worlds in the west stand. The KSC and Prof. Dr. Seiler and his family are responsible for attending home games constant exchange.”

Only a short time later, an interview by ex-squad planner Necat Aygün lit another fire under the KSC roof. Here too, the KSC responded with a detailed statement and accused Aygün of spreading false information.

Disputes in the presidency are becoming increasingly clear

Spicy, however: Both vice presidents – Günther Pilarsky and Michael Müller – were not involved in the creation of the letter. At least that’s what Martin Müller reports in the BNN.

“We were simply informed by the managing director that this publication would be made. I myself could not confirm anything incorrect in the content of Necat Aygün’s interview statements, as long as the underlying facts are known to me. Of course, I can comment on the facts that were not known to me “I can’t say anything. Rather, I can say that I was given reasons other than those stated in the clarification for the collaboration with Galatasaray not taking place,” Müller is quoted as saying in the daily newspaper.

There is now nothing left of the euphoria that was felt around the wildlife park in the summer. The club also seems to clearly sense this and once again addressed the public in the form of an open letter.

Open letter is the next level of escalation

In the letter, the club implores us to continue to stand together. They are convinced that the chosen path will increase the probability of sporting success, but they can also understand that fans are disappointed.

“It is in the nature of things that a process like this is not always received positively by everyone involved and it does not always take place quietly. We can also understand the disappointment of some individuals. Regardless of this, we remain absolutely convinced of the path we have chosen because it “forms the basis for permanently increasing the probability of sporting and economic success,” the letter says.

The letter ends with the words: “In order to be able to celebrate sporting successes with you again as quickly as possible, we need above all calm, cohesion and unity. So let’s all focus on continuing to shape the future of the KSC positively and on ourselves in the short term to concentrate on the upcoming important home game against Schalke 04! Blue and white greetings from the Wildpark.”

Vice presidents don’t sign

Followed by numerous signatures from people who are responsible for Karlsruher SC. For example, from President Holger Siegmund-Schultze, Managing Director Michael Becker, all department heads, all supervisory board members, the members’ council and the department council.

The signature list behind the letter includes a total of 37 names. But two names are missing from the list: Günther Pilarsky and Michael Müller. The vice presidents and advisory board members at KSC.

Both had supported the former sports director in the vote to dismiss Oliver Kreuzer and repeatedly emphasized this publicly afterwards. They were outvoted at the time by Holger Siegmund Schultze, Thomas Hock and Christian Fischer, who also signed the letter.

General meeting on December 4th

With Pilarsky and Müller not signing, it should now become clear to everyone how big the break is within the KSC advisory board. Further arguments seem inevitable. The KSC general meeting on December 4th should be exciting, even if no new elections are planned.

By the way: You will also look in vain for Christian Eichner’s name on the list. However, one can assume that he will position himself behind his division manager Sebastian Freis.

The KSC’s open letter in full:

Dear members, fans and partners of Karlsruher SC,

Together with you, we were able to open the new stadium with a sensational opening game against Liverpool in the summer. A memorable event that sparked great euphoria and anticipation.

The KSC is in very dynamic and strong competition in the 2nd Bundesliga. The results week after week show how balanced and exciting the league is. It is therefore important that we, together with you, correctly classify our expectations for the course of this season. The goal is still to reach the 40-point mark as quickly as possible.

In the course of completing the stadium, the KSC also completed its successful change process lasting several years, during which we caught up with our competitors in many areas. It is in the nature of things that a process like this is not always received positively by everyone involved and it does not always take place quietly. We can also understand the disappointment of some individuals.

Regardless, we remain absolutely convinced of the path we have chosen, as it forms the basis for permanently increasing the probability of sporting and economic success. The overarching and absolutely primary goal is always maximum – short-term, medium-term and long-term – sporting success, taking financial stability into account, so that Karlsruher SC is positioned sustainably and successfully in the future.

In addition, there are certainly many things in every field of action in the change process that we can and will improve together with you. Everyone involved, especially all employees and the management of Karlsruher SC, is continuing to work on this with high pressure and in the interests of the club as part of the ongoing development process.

Based on an extensive analysis, a comprehensive reorganization of the entire sports department was recently implemented. The structures and strategic changes introduced as a result will still need some time to become visible.

In order to be able to celebrate sporting successes with you again as quickly as possible, we need above all calm, cohesion and unity. So let’s all focus on continuing to shape the future of KSC positively and concentrate on the upcoming important home game against Schalke 04 in the short term!
