Maine and Campbell to square off for first time in history Saturday at 4 p.m.

Orono, Maine — The University of Maine football team returns to the road on Saturday, Oct. 21 when it travels for the first meeting in program history at Campbell. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.

After a Homecoming victory over LIU, Maine looks to continue its momentum as it goes for its first road win of the season when it visits Campbell for the first meeting between the two programs in history.
Maine makes its first trip to North Carolina since 2019 when it defeated Elon, 31-17, on Nov. 9.
Maine is coming off a 24-13 victory over Long Island University in front of a sellout crowd of 8,588 at Alfond Stadium. The Black Bears, who trailed 10-7 at the half, outscored LIU 17-3 in the second half to score the victory. Maine held LIU to just 92 total yards in the second half. Derek Robertson threw for three touchdowns as he has 10 touchdown passes in his last three outings. Joe Gillette boasted a career-high matching eight receptions for the second straight week while going over the century mark (102 yds) for the second time in as many weeks. Defensively, the Black Bears forced three turnovers as Abdul Stewart nabbed his team-leading third interception. Stewart now has three interceptions in his last five games.
Campbell, 0-2 at home this season with two CAA losses, snapped a two-game losing skid when it defeated Hampton, 30-27, this past weekend. The game marked the fourth time this season in which Campbell has bested 30 points as the Camels enter play second in the CAA at 37.8 points per game and second in total offense (435.0). Campbell is led by quarterback Hajj-Malik Williams who ranks third in the CAA at 277.8 passing yards per game and tops in the league wit ha 173.6 passing efficiency rating. Offensively, the Camels ranks first in the CAA and fifth nationally on third down, converting at a 51.5% clip.
After having nine catches and no touchdowns in Maine’s first four games, Joe Gillette has tallied 20 catches for 367 yards and five touchdowns in his last three games. In that span, Gillette is averaging 6.7 catches, 122.3 yards, and 1.7 touchdowns per game. He has nabbed career-highs in reception (8) in back to back games. Gillette ranks second in the CAA and 11th nationally in touchdown receptions (5), seventh in the CAA in receiving yards per game (61.1), and eighth in receptions per game (4.1).
Maine’s defense has now forced two or more turnovers in five of its first seven games. The Black Hole ranks second in the CAA and fifth nationally with 14 turnovers gained. Maine is fourth in the conference in turnover margin (0.57) at +4 on the season. Maine has forced eight turnovers in its last three outings.
