Tyrod Taylor to Start at Quarterback in Place of Injured Daniel Jones

Tyrod Taylor will once again start at quarterback in place of Daniel Jones, who has been ruled out for his third consecutive game due to a neck injury.

Coach Brian Daboll announced the news Friday morning leading up to Sunday’s contest against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium. Jones has taken scout team reps in practice but still awaits clearance for contact.

“I’d just say we are on this week, and we will see what happens next week,” Daboll said. “He’s getting better. He’s getting better. He’s throwing, he feels better every day. He’s done a good job here of the things that he can do out here on the practice field and take it one day at a time. But he’s getting closer.”

Running back Gary Brightwell, who injured his hamstring last week vs. Washington, was placed on injured reserve in a series of weekend moves. The Giants also signed wide receiver/return specialist Gunner Olszewski to the active roster and elevated third-string quarterback Tommy DeVito and outside linebacker Oshane Ximines.

Left tackle Andrew Thomas was listed as doubtful on the final injury report as he continues to deal with a hamstring injury that he suffered in the season opener. Five players were questionable: cornerback Adoree’ Jackson (neck), right tackle Evan Neal (ankle), center John Michael Schmitz (shoulder), outside linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux (knee), and tight end Darren Waller (hamstring).
