Josué Pesqueira and Radovan Pankov, players of the Polish team Legia Warsaw, were arrested in the Netherlands after their team’s UEFA Conference League match against AZ Alkmaar on Thursday evening. Pesqueira and Pankov, of Portuguese and Serbian nationality, were arrested for assault in the riots involving the team and the police officers on duty at the Alkmaar stadium: they are still detained in the Netherlands, while the rest of the team has returned to Poland .
The Polish government is also taking an interest in the matter: on Friday Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki asked the Dutch authorities for clarification, also regarding the clashes that occurred between Polish fans and police at the entrances to the stadium before the match. The managers of Legia Warsaw also report having suffered violence at the hands of the Dutch police, as demonstrated by some videos published online in the last few hours.
Here is the moment of the aggressive attack by the Dutch police on the President@LegiaWarszawaD.Mioduski!!! Absolute scandal. The physical integrity of several players and staff members was also violated by both security and the police. An unprecedented situation. pic.twitter.com/qIceazjxWu
