Trpišovský was among the spectators during the explosion with Tiraspol. I was going to work then, he said

When, 14 years ago, the players of Slavia unexpectedly dropped out of the Champions League qualification with Tiraspol after conceding a goal in the set-up, their current coach Jindřich Trpišovský was sitting in the south stand in Eden, under which the decisive goal was scored.

He personally does not see Thursday’s Europa League match with Sheriff as a chance for revenge and wants to start a more successful era of mutual fights with the team. He also stated at the press conference that he does not consider the match to be crucial in the fight for promotion and that he is preparing changes in the lineup.

In the summer of 2009, after an away goalless draw in Tiraspol, the Slavists were leading 1-0 in the second leg in Eden and were aiming for promotion, but Šeriff equalized in the set-up and, thanks to the then rule about goals on the field, knocked out the opponents of the Prague favorite.

“At that time, I was going to work. So I probably had a morning shift so that I could go to football in the afternoon. At that time, I worked at Xaverova as a youth coach. (Defender) Matej Krajčík got me tickets, otherwise I wouldn’t have gotten here,” Trpišovský said.

“I was sitting as a fan in the south stand where the goal was scored at the time, so I was disappointed. I had it first hand, I remember the last minute well. But otherwise I had nothing to do with it. We want to start a new era and remember Tiraspol is different,” added the Slavist coach.

His charges won 2-0 against Servette in Geneva 14 days ago and they can take a big step towards promotion with a possible win over Tiraspol. “We don’t look at it like that, we take each match separately. Now we have Tiraspol at home and regardless of the order of the matches, we want to give the best possible performance and win. We won’t look at how it will affect the table,” Trpišovský said .

The Moldovan sovereign, who were eliminated in the 3rd preliminary round of the Champions League with Pilsen last year after two 1:2 defeats, lost to AS Rome 1:2 at the start of the group. “It is a completely different team than the one that played with Pilsen last year. There is only one player left in the lineup – stopper Kiki. The team is supplemented by South Americans and other foreign players. From what I saw against AS Rome, I would definitely not say that Tiraspol is the outsider of the group. I liked it very much, it was a balanced match,” noted Trpišovský.

“They are very interesting with the ball. The players are on the move a lot, they believe in themselves, they are good at combining. At the tip, they have two typologically different strong strikers who can hold the ball and finish well. In addition, Talal is a strong playmaker. He is very technical and confident team. I think that in the upcoming matches they will convince that they are not an outsider,” added Trpišovský.

His charges struggled in the final stages in previous matches and scored only two goals from penalties in the last three rounds of the Czech league. On Sunday in Teplice, they drew 0:0 and came up empty-handed for the first time since March.

“We need to improve our play in the box, we need to be efficient. The match will be challenging, we will want maximum activity from the players, a lot of run-up, pressing and passing. The players will rotate, we will want to vary during the match, have other options. We are clear about the lineup. Some there are always minor changes and there will be tomorrow as well. Maybe also with regard to the latest performances or current form,” said Trpišovský.
