Tramun has been in shape for 25 years

This weekend Tramun celebrated its 25th edition certifying its good health and consolidating itself as a transversal test that attracts a wide range of mountain biking enthusiasts and practitioners, from the youngest who are just starting out to the professionals. This is what I could see yesterday in the Fontajau esplanade, where beyond the sports competition, the public and the participants turned the venue into the nerve center of mountain biking in the Girona regions.

And it’s that Tramun it is one of the tests with the most character in the province for lovers of trails in the middle of nature. This year’s edition presented a most attractive route in both La Tramun XCM and Tramun XCC. The first, suitable only for the most experts, had a distance of 81 kilometers and 2,300 meters of positive elevation gain. Starting in Sant Esteve d’en Bas, the cyclists had to face a particularly tough first part through the Serra de Finestres, while from here the difficulty was already diminishing, to face the last kilometers of descent to the finish line of Fontajau. Along the route, there were distributed up to seven refreshment points, the last of which in Santa Afra, from where the participants already had to push themselves to the maximum to mark the best possible record at the finish line. They were especially hard the last kilometers for the cyclists who contested the victory, which was more contested than could be predicted at the start due to the difficulty of the route. The last references to Santa Afra made us think of an almost heart attack ending, but after all the cyclist from Northern Catalonia, Hugo Drechouwho already prevailed in the last edition, arrived on the Fontajau straight with a clear advantage over his two main pursuers, the German Martin Frey and the Estonian Peeter Pruus, which were 20 seconds and 1 minute respectively from Drechou. A little later he arrived in Fontajau the local idol, Guillem Cassuwho despite his good role could not fight for the podium.

An hour after the men’s first-place finishers arrived and while the smell of the embers from the restaurant area began to be felt, the speaker warned the audience that the female leader, Txell Figueras, was already facing the last kilometers. Girona reached the finish line unopposed in its category with a time of 5 hours and 51 minutes.

Hours earlier, Gil Sanchez, the Tramun XCC’s first-place finisher, had crossed the finish line, and the race that Tramun Kids had completed, with distances that ranged from 500 meters, for the pre-Benjamins, to the last stretch of 17, 5 kilometers of Tramun XCM, in the case of the children’s category.
