Toronto Raptors Secure Fourth Year of Scottie Barnes’ Rookie Contract

As expected, the Raptors have exercised their team option to secure the fourth year of Scottie Barnes’ rookie contract, who is thus tied to the Canadian organization until the end of the 2024-25 season.

By guaranteeing the 10.1 million dollars stipulated in the rookie agreement for the aforementioned campaign, the former number 4 in the 2021 draft will be eligible to sign a rookie scale extension in the summer of 2024.

The forward trained at Florida State University was named Rookie of the Year in 2022, but in his second season in the NBA he could not take the step forward that many expected. He averaged 15.3 points, but shot 28 percent from 3-point range and grabbed 6.6 rebounds per night, fewer than his rookie year. In any case, Toronto remains blindly confident in his potential.

Thinking about the present, and although he admits that losing Fred VanVleet is not good news, Barnes believes that it also has its positive side, since it will allow other boys to develop and have more weight on the hardwood – including him – .
