Tomás Etcheverry Advances to Second Round at ATP 500 in Basel with Victory Over Sebastián Korda

The Argentine tennis player, Tomás Etcheverry, qualified this Monday for the second round of the ATP 500 in Basel, after beating the American Sebastián Korda 6-3, 1-6 and 6-3. The player from La Plata will face Andy Murray in the round of 16, who beat the German Yannick Hanfmann 7-5, 6-4.

Argentine tennis starred in a great day in Switzerland. After Sebastián Báez beat the Australian Christopher O’Connell 6-7, 6-4 and 6-3, Etcheverry was also able to advance in the competition. The match lasted 1 hour and 56 minutes and was the third time he met Korda so far this year. In the previous duels (in Toronto and Zhuahi), the 24-year-old tennis player had been defeated. However, he managed to redeem himself today.

Against the Olympic medalist Andy Murray (40th) next Wednesday, Etcheverry (32nd) will try to remove the thorn from the Indian Wells he played in March of this year. In that tournament, despite managing to win the opening set, he had been eliminated against the Scottish native 7-6, 1-6 and 4-6 in the first round.
